This week I have been reflecting on the Death, Burial, & Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Tomorrow is Easter Sunday and we will be celebrating Christ’s Resurrection. But until then, I’m still dissecting the profoundness of Good Friday. I read a blog post today that wanted the reader to finish this sentence: “Easter is…” I commented with “Easter is possible because of Good Friday.” Growing up, I didn’t pay that much attention to Good Friday…all I knew was that I was out of school/work & that I got dressed up on Sunday and we celebrated the Risen Savior. Now that I am older (both in number and maturity) I am meditating on what it meant for Him to choose to die for a WRETCH like me. Besides, He had to die before He could rise.
Rick and I were talking last night about our “Easter” experiences growing up. We then compared them to what we are experiencing now. Our church “Set the Atmosphere” during the Good Friday Service in order for us to really examine ourselves and ask “Was it worth it?” I appreciated the stripped down approach…one singer, a few musicians, Pastor Ben walked us through what Jesus physically went through, we nailed our sins to the Cross, partook of the Elements, & left in reverence out of respect for those who chose to linger and rest in the moment. I really began to ponder what Jesus’ Death meant for me…
So before the Celebration starts, let’s take one more day to meditate on what our Savior went through so that we could be Redeemed.
