Anyone who knows me , knows that I am a huge music fan. Not just within one genre, but I have a love and appreciation of GOOD music…no matter what genre. About a year ago, my husband (Rick) brought Mute Math to my life. At first I really enjoyed them and thought that it was decent music and I could really get into it. The lyrics were clean (no cussing) and really thought provoking. Rick and I were talking one day about Mute Math and that’s when I learned that they were Christians in a band, thus the reason for a lot of there thought provoking lyrics. However, it wasn’t until Rick recently took me to one of their concerts that I gained the FULL appreciation for what they did as a band and for what they sang about (besides that, their live show is SICK!!! If you EVER get a chance to check them out, please do).
One song in particular has really been resonating with me lately…I have listened to this song several times a day for the past five days! It’s called “You Are Mine” off of their 2006 album “Mutemath”. As you can see in the lyrics below, it speaks of obsession and addiction and ultimately the thing that we place all of our energy and focus into. Compared to the things that everyone else is addicted to or obsessing over, the writer is saying that God is his obsession. This caused me to pause and really think about what is going on in my life that is consuming my thoughts and time. Where is God’s place? At the top of my to-do list or somewhere in the middle or an afterthought?
Lyrics:
Everyone has their obsession
Consuming thoughts, consuming time
They hold high their prized posession
That defines the meaning of their lives
You are mine
There are objects of affection
That can mesmerize the soul
There is always one addiction
That just cannot be controlled
You are mine
Everyone has their obsession
Consuming thoughts, consuming time
They hold high their prized posession
They hold high their prized posession
You are mine
I couldn’t find a quality version of the song on the web…this is the best I could do. It really is a beautiful song, I hope you enjoy it.

I found your site on google blog search and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. Just added your RSS feed to my feed reader. Look forward to reading more from you.

For anyone interested here are two links related to Mute Math. The first one indicts them for their attempts to avoid the ‘Christian band’ moniker. The other is an album review from Christianity Today.
